Tesco introduces new supermarket feature for all shoppers who care about the environment

Supermarket giant Tesco has announced a new in-store service that supermarket shoppers will love.

Clothing alterations business, The Zip Yard has opened its first store in Stretford’s Tesco Extra today (10 th August). The opening marks a new partnership which is being trialled in three UK Tesco stores, offering shoppers access to repair, alter, upcycle or restyle clothes and home accessories so they fit better and last longer.

Neluka Dunning, owner of The Zip Yard UK Master Franchise said: “We’re delighted to be working with Tesco to provide Zip Yard stores within its Tesco Extra stores.

“Clothing has the fourth largest impact on the environment after housing, transport and food and results in almost £140 million worth of clothes being thrown away each year – mostly to landfill.

“Wearing something for an extra nine months can reduce its carbon footprint by 20-30% and we hope shoppers will be encouraged to bring in their garments for alterations and repair rather than throwing them away.

“From simple zip repairs to trouser alterations and wedding dress and suit tailoring, we will be offering a personal service and exceptional quality finish to every customer and our on-site fitting rooms will allow for professional tailoring.”
