Offsite manufacturing specialist, Premier Modular, has won a multi-million pound contract to deliver new security buildings across three airports in the UK, as part of a major investment programme across Manchester Airport Group’s estate.
Premier Modular will be supporting construction company, BAM, with the design and fit-out of new facilities at Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport and East Midlands Airport, upgrading the existing infrastructure.
Premier Modular has designed a bespoke building blueprint that can be easily repeated across the sites, delivering 42 modules across the three sites. The design has also been developed to minimise disruptions on site, as well as simplify management and maintenance. Work has already begun at Manchester and London Stansted, with East Midlands due to commence later this month.
The project win follows the publication of the Government’s infrastructure and industrial strategies, along with its commitment to kickstart economic growth through continued investment into critical infrastructure.
With manufacturing taking place offsite in Premier Modular’s factory, the project is being delivered to strict timescales, with reduced disruption on site, key at busy airport environments.
David Harris, Managing Director at Premier Modular, said: “These projects are a prime example of modular’s role in supporting critical infrastructure, especially in high security settings. With construction happening at our manufacturing facility, we are able to reduce disruption, keeping our time on site to a minimum and assembling in a matter of weeks, ensuring timeframes are met.”
John McCarthy, construction manager at BAM, said: “When it came to finding a solution for the new security facilities, we knew that modular construction was the right solution for this project. Working together we have developed a design that we can quickly and easily install across the MAG sites with minimal disruption to everyday operations.”
