The much-loved chocolate treat was first introduced by Mars Inc in 2003 – only to be discontinued in 2014 due to ‘poor sales’, but now it appears it is making a comeback
Chocolate lovers compose yourselves – because a hugely popular treat is reportedly set to return to the shelves after an 11-year absence. According to social media foodie, Minstrel Munches, the snack, which was first introduced in 2003, will see a comeback in the next two months.
“They are coming back,” she declared in a TikTok video. “They are expected to be released in the middle of June or start of July. I never got to try these before and they were discontinued in 2014 [due to poor sales].”
The chocolate in question is white chocolate Maltesers, a confectionary staple owned by Mars. Minstrel Munches went on to add that the brand is releasing several other Maltesers varieties too, meanwhile, including a chocolate tiramisu flavour, and dark chocolate Black Forest gateau flavour.
She continued: “I’ve also tried the gold ones too – I actually think they are better than the regular Maltesers. But I can’t wait to try the white ones – are they going to be better than the regular ones too?”
NewFoodsUK also shared the exciting news on TikTok, meanwhile, penning: “You guessed it… They’re BACK. White. Maltesers. That’s right – the legendary creamy, crunchy, melt-in-your-mouth WHITE MALTESERS are making their glorious return! Mark your calendars – they’ll be hitting shelves between mid-June and July. So get ready to stock up, snack hard, and taste the comeback we’ve all been waiting for. White choc lovers, your moment is coming.”
Writing in response, one TikTok user confessed: “These were the best so gutted they were discontinued.” A second person admitted: “I really hope this is real I’ll actually cry it’s been too long.”
A third shared: “It’s about time they come back, I can’t wait.” A fourth added: “Thank god, my dad will smile again. These were his favourite.” Whilst a fifth TikTok user praised: “This has made my year! My absolute fave!”
Following online demand last year for white chocolate Maltesers to return, a Mars Wrigley UK spokesperson told Sky News of the snack: “We’re always listening to the fans of our chocolate and fruity treats, which is why we’re constantly innovating our ranges.
“Whilst White Chocolate Maltesers aren’t currently on shelves, we’re pleased to offer many delicious alternatives such as M&M’s, and of course, our original Maltesers.
“We’ve always got an ear to the ground and recognise the enduring love for old favourites, so stay tuned for some epic comebacks that could be happening soon… Watch this space!”
