SUMMARY:Marginalised & Menopausal - Manchester
DESCRIPTION:Reimagining Menopause Through Community\, Culture and Collective Care \n\n\n\n\nBack in action for the third year running\, this gathering brings together marginalised communities\, academics\, researchers\, practitioners\, and local stakeholders into one shared space to talk openly about menopause and its wider ripple effects. \nThis is not a traditional panel or conference. It is a living conversation space where lived experience meets research\, and where knowledge is not owned by one group but shared across generations\, cultures\, and identities. \nWe will explore early menopause\, chemical menopause\, perimenopause\, and the often overlooked emotional\, social\, and economic impacts that sit beneath them. We will also hold space for intergenerational dialogue\, recognising how menopause affects families\, relationships\, workplaces\, and entire communities. \nA key focus this year is connection and inclusion. We are intentionally creating space for men to listen\, learn\, and hold better understanding\, alongside women and people who experience menopause directly. This is about shifting silence into shared responsibility. \nAlongside conversation\, we will spotlight the incredible grassroots organisations\, clinicians\, academics\, and community leaders who are already working in this space locally. Visibility matters\, and so does building stronger networks so no one is working in isolation.

SUMMARY:Mississippi Records presents: A People’s History of Music (during times of Authoritarianism)
DESCRIPTION:Mississippi Records presents: A People’s History of Music (during times of Authoritarianism) \nComing from Portland\, Oregon to Manchester! \nTells a story of global music scenes that struggled and endeavoured during periods of authoritarianism. This is a timely and compelling interweaving of people and places\, of past and present\, of making and sharing music in very troubling times. It’s the story of how the powerful interests try to control music and how people fight back\, nimbly evading systemic repressions by puritans\, corporations and tech lords alike. Making wide\, bold swings\, this show\, covers music from Ethiopia\, North Korea\, Kenya\, the USA and beyond\, while drawing on Eric’s colorfully described\, personal experiences of the fascist creep. \nThe presentation covers these subjects and more:\n– The ongoing worldwide DIY music scenes forging connections between endangered communities.\n– Underground music’s resistance to censorship and propaganda\n– The secret revolutionary messages hidden in pop music\n– Unintentionally hilarious musical forays by fascists\, authoritarian systems and states\n– The insidious relationship between New Age music and fascism \nThis whirlwind presentation of archival film\, sound clips and images avoids political grandstanding\, instead emphasizing vital anti-authoritarian stories of resistance through samizdat music distribution.\nCome and join us for this evening of vital anti-authoritarian stories of resistance\, idiosyncrasies and soulful stories in the histories of under-acknowledged punk\, gospel\, soul\, blues and roots based music from around the world.

SUMMARY:Developing in the Dark – illuminating stories of support
DESCRIPTION:A film photography portrait project that reveals the people and stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed by helplines. \n\n\n\n\nDeveloping in the Dark – illuminating stories of support \nJoin Helplines Partnership and Little Vintage Photography this November for the next showcase of the Developing in the Dark photography exhibition. \nBehind every call or message is a story that deserves to be heard. Launched in February 2026 to mark Helplines Awareness Day\, this exhibition brings those stories into the light — and it continues to travel. We’re delighted to welcome it now to the Hyatt Regency\, Manchester where it makes its third physical appearance. \nAbout the project \nDeveloping in the Dark is an analogue film photography portrait project that reveals the people and stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed by helplines. \nThe individuals in this project represent millions who’ve found lifelines when they needed them most. Their stories challenge assumptions about who needs help and why. They’re your colleagues\, your neighbours\, the person next to you on the train—ordinary people navigating extraordinary challenges. Their personal struggles often go unseen and we want to raise awareness of helplines and the amazing work of the sector.

SUMMARY:Freedom Fest 2026 Manchester
DESCRIPTION:Freedom Fest 2026 is a new one-day Manchester event bringing together people interested in privacy\, digital rights\, civil liberties and the technologies that can help individuals retain greater control over their digital lives. \nTaking place at the Pendulum Hotel in Manchester on Saturday 21 November 2026\, Freedom Fest will bring campaigners\, journalists\, technologists\, developers\, privacy advocates and members of the public together for a programme of talks\, panel discussions\, workshops and practical demonstrations. \nAs more aspects of everyday life move into digital systems\, questions around identity\, privacy and individual control are becoming increasingly important. Freedom Fest will explore issues including Digital ID\, surveillance\, facial recognition\, encryption\, censorship and free expression\, financial privacy\, digital ownership\, open-source technology and digital sovereignty. \nThe event is designed to go beyond simply discussing the problems. A significant part of Freedom Fest is dedicated to Freedom Tech — practical technologies and open systems that can give people more control over their devices\, communications\, information and data. \nParticipating organisations include Tor and GrapheneOS\, alongside speakers and contributors working across privacy technology\, journalism\, digital rights\, civil liberties and open-source communities. \nVisitors will be able to hear from people working directly on these issues\, take part in discussions and workshops\, and discover tools and technologies that may provide alternatives to increasingly centralised online platforms and services. \nFreedom Fest is intended for a broad audience. Attendees do not need to be technology experts or already involved in privacy campaigning. The programme is being created both for people working professionally in these areas and for anyone who simply wants to better understand how changes in technology and public policy may affect their privacy\, identity\, communications\, money and freedom in the years ahead. \nTopics throughout the day will range from the political and legal questions surrounding surveillance and digital identity to hands-on discussions about privacy tools\, secure communications\, open-source software and technologies designed around user control. \nFreedom Fest is being organised by the team behind Bitfest\, Manchester’s Bitcoin\, Nostr and open-technology festival. The events remain distinct\, with Freedom Fest deliberately focused on the wider public conversation around privacy\, civil liberties and technology\, while taking place alongside the wider Bitfest weekend in Manchester. \nFreedom Fest 2026 takes place at the Pendulum Hotel\, Manchester\, on Saturday 21 November 2026. \nTickets are £49 for adults\, £21 for children and £119 for a family ticket covering two adults and two children. \nFor the latest programme information\, speakers and tickets\, visit freedomfest.now.

SUMMARY:An Evening of Radiohead - Acoustic
DESCRIPTION:An intimate acoustic evening celebrating the music of Radiohead. \nSinger-guitarist Rob Sutton takes a journey through one of alternative music’s most distinctive catalogues\, stripping back Radiohead favourites and deeper cuts for solo voice and acoustic guitar. \nDrawing from albums across the band’s career\, expect familiar songs alongside some less obvious choices in the intimate surroundings of Gullivers Ballroom\, Manchester. \nRather than trying to recreate the records note for note\, the evening brings the songs back to their melodies\, lyrics and atmosphere\, giving them space to breathe in a close up live setting. \nWhether you’re a long time Radiohead fan or simply love songs such as No Surprises\, Fake Plastic Trees\, Street Spirit\, High and Dry and True Love Waits\, this is a chance to hear the music from a different angle. \nPerformed by Rob Sutton \nDoors: 7:30pm | Performance: 8:00pm \nThis is an independently produced celebration of Radiohead’s music and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Radiohead.
