£72m Old Trafford two-tower scheme tops out as completion update announced

A huge development close to Manchester United’s Old Trafford group has topped out and is on target for completion in spring next year, it’s been revealed.

Developer Cole Waterhouse made the announcement on Friday about the £72m No1 Old Trafford scheme, a 350-unit residential development, which has sold 70% of its units already.

The 214,000 sq ft site has been designed by Jon Matthews Architects and is being built by Domis Construction.

When complete, the waterfront development will include 139 one-bed, 211 two-bed and four three-bed apartments across two towers which are 15 and 18 storeys tall, both of which have now reached their highest point.

Cole Waterhouse CEO, Damian Flood, said: “Domis has done a superb job adhering to the development programme whilst ensuring Covid-safe working conditions.

“We have continued to see a high level of interest, in particular from international investors, but as we rapidly move towards completion next year we are starting to achieve more direct sales to local owner occupiers which is excellent news.”

Cole Waterhouse said it has reserved 15% of the apartments specifically for first time buyers under the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

The development also includes a £1m public realm improvement package to the perimeter of the site where the landmark Skyhooks sculpture resides.

Lee McCarren managing director of Domis Construction added: “The project is on schedule and to budget and more importantly is being constructed under safe systems of work, ensuring our people are protected through the challenges of COVID-19.

“It’s great to be working on such a high profile development for Cole Waterhouse and we look forward to continuing to provide an exemplary service through to completion”.
